Read job postings as buying signals, not HR news.
A job posting is a public budget commitment. Read correctly, it tells you what a company is about to build, fix or scale — and when to start the conversation.
Why it reveals buying intent
Hiring is spending. A company opening a role has already secured budget for the problem that role solves — and usually needs tools, services and partners around it.
Where it shows up
- France Travail
- Indeed
- FHF (healthcare)
- Specialist job boards
- Career pages
Detection
How to detect this signal manually.
Watch the boards where your buyers actually post: France Travail and Indeed for volume, specialist boards for your vertical.
Search by role keywords, not company names — the role reveals the project (a “Head of Growth” opening means an acquisition push).
Track posting velocity: one role is a replacement; three roles on the same team is a project.
Note the seniority: a first hire on a function signals a build-from-scratch, the strongest variant of this signal.
Record the posting date — the window between posting and onboarding is when tooling and partner decisions happen.
Qualification
Checklist before reaching out.
- The role belongs to the function your product or service supports.
- The company fits your ICP: size, sector, territory.
- The posting is fresh — under 30 days old, ideally under two weeks.
- The role or its wording implies the problem you solve (stack mentioned, mission description).
- You can identify the likely decision-maker above the role being hired.
False positives
What looks like a signal but isn't.
- Replacement hires: the same role reposted after a departure signals continuity, not a new project.
- Perpetual postings: agencies and some scale-ups keep evergreen ads open — check how long the ad has been live.
- Ghost postings used for market mapping or employer branding, with no real intent to hire.
- Roles too distant from your offer — a sales hire does not mean a marketing budget.
Concrete example
Turn the signal into a reason to reach out.
Signal detected
A 120-person services firm posts its first “Digital Marketing Manager” role.
Why it's interesting
A first marketing hire means the function is being built from zero — tools, agencies and processes are all open questions for the next 90 days.
Possible approach angle
You're structuring your digital marketing — most teams at this stage lock in their acquisition stack during the first quarter. Worth comparing notes?
